Achievement Awards

Purpose:

The purpose of the Achievement Awards is to recognise Old Boys who have brought recognition and honour to the School by outstanding contributions to their professions or to Society at large and to celebrate the contribution of the School in the life of the Old Boy.

The Achievement Awards are:  

Procedure:

  1. The OBA Managing Committee shall constitute an Awards Sub-Committee to select the recipients of the awards.
  2. Members of the Awards Sub-Committee shall be:
    1. Past Presidents – 3 Past Presidents by annual rotation;
    2. Two members of the Managing Committee– the Vice President and the Secretary
      Total number of members – 5.
  3. The Awards Sub-Committee shall invite nominations, resumes and letters of recommendation from all Old Boys simultaneously publishing the eligibility for nomination every year.
      1. The nominations may be in free format with resume, etc., containing enough information to enable the Awards Sub-Committee to recognize the Old Boy for the award, such as:
        Name, Class, House, Batch
        Proposer and Seconder
        Biodata or resume of achievements
        Contribution to Society, School and/or the OBA
    1. A nomination made in a year shall be considered in that year only and shall not be considered in a subsequent year unless a fresh nomination is made.
    2. An Old Boy may make only two nominations for each Award per year.
    3. Nominations to be handed over at the OBA Office in a sealed envelope or sent via e-mail to secretary@sjbhsoba.net
  4. Nominations shall be received until June 15 of the year.  Nominations received after June 15, shall not be entertained.
  5. The Sub-Committee shall select the Old Boys to be awarded by June 30.
  6. The decision of the Awards Sub-Committee shall be final and not open to review.
  7. The Awards shall be given on OBA Day.

Miscellaneous:

Members of the Sub-Committee may not propose or second any Old Boy for any award, that is, they shall recuse themselves from the Sub-Committee for that year if they are conflicted.

OBA Lifetime Achievement Award:

  1. Shall be an Old Boy
  2. Must have studied in the School for at least 1 year
  3. Prominence and acclaim in their chosen field
  4. Consistent and comprehensive record of excellence and achievement beyond the norm
  5. Persistent effort and courage in the face of adversity
  6. Innovative and effective approaches to challenging problems
  7. Ongoing and positive effect on their field and other people
  8. Impact on Old Boys and pupils of the School

OBA Award for Significant Achievement:

  1. Shall be an Old Boy
  2. Must have studied in the School for at least 1 year
  3. Prominence and acclaim in their chosen field
  4. Record of innovation, excellence and achievement beyond the norm.
  5. Provides inspiration and leadership to present students and young alumni
  6. Impact on younger Old Boys and pupils of the School
  7. Continuing contribution to the OBA

As many awards as the Sub-Committee thinks fit shall be given every year
