Managing Committee 2019 - 20

SJBHS OBA CONNECT - Coorg 2013 was held on November 9, 2013 at the Bamboo Club, Pollibetta. The event was attended by as many as 55 Old Boys and their families, taking the attendance at the event to cross the 100 mark.

Registration for the event commenced at 5 p.m. and was followed by the AGM of the Coorg Chapter.

The meeting was called to order by Ashok Subbaiah (1975), President of the Coorg Chapter while C.C. Thimaiah (1984), Vice President and P. Ajit Bopanna (1975), Secretary took the dias along with the special guest for the evening - Gopal Bengeri (1976), President of the OBA.

The proceedings began with the gathering observing a minute's silence in memory of the Old Boys who had passed on during the year and was followed by singing of the School Song.

Ashok Subbaiah spoke briefly on the activities of the Coorg chapter during the past year and C.C. Thimaiah then invited Gopal Bengeri to address the gathering. Gopal elaborated on the role that the OBA plays today, not only in bringing Old Boys of SJBHS together but also in helping the needy by handing out scholarships each year.

The floor was then thrown open to any Old Boy who wished to speak. Alex Pillay recalled his days at school when he was part of the 'invincible' relay team that won every race that they participated in. Kumar Mandanna (1952) fondly remembered how Mr. Alec Alvares had helped him during his schooldays and had even sent Mathai to call him for the final exam, which he had missed to attend. Kumar mentioned that Mr. Alvares will soon be 99 years of age and that Mr. Alvares has expressed that he, with the good wishes of his former pupils, would like to live to be a 100 and more.

The next item on the agenda was to elect the Managing Committee of the Coorg chapter for the coming year. It was unanimously decided that the current committee continues in office for another year, with an Old Boy also proposing that the committee continues to occupy office for a term of 5 years. The committee expressed their reservation in taking on the task for a longer period to which Jeevan Alvarez (1986) quoted his former History teacher, Mr. Hanumanth Rao - "Yes, he was the King but his throne was not a bed or roses I say!", putting the matter to rest!

C.C.Thimaiah then invited Ajit Bopanna to propose the Vote of Thanks. Ajit thanked all those who helped in organising the event, the members of the Managing Committee of the OBA and all the Old Boys and families present at the occasion.

Band 'Jukebox' then took centre-stage and the floor was thrown open.

Bonhomie among Josephites was evident all along, with the well-organised evening lasting well into the night. Back
